EDITORAL PHILOSOPHY Who we are: The Courier is owned by Northern Lights Media LLC. Owner/operators are Jeff and Susan Hovind. Please direct all correspondence to the Merrill Courier, 1027 E. Main St. Merrill, WI 54452, phone: 715-536-5843, or publisher@dwave.net. How we cover the news: The news content of the Merrill Courier is primarily focused on the City of Merrill, Merrill-area schools, and Lincoln County. We are particularly interested in positive news an "people" stories that illustrate the character of the community. If you have a story idea, contact Editor Jeff Hovind at the number above, or publisher@dwave.net. We will also fulfill the traditional newspaper role of serving as the watchdog of local and state government. The average citizen often doesn't have time to monitor how government is performing or how tax dollars are being spent. We do. We affirm our belief in Wisconsin's tradition of open and clean government, as it is embodied in the state's open records and meeting laws. Our viewpoint and politics: We believe publishing a variety of commentary from the entire spectrum is the best way to inform our readers. Letters to the editor are welcomed and encouraged. Opinions expressed by columnists and letter writers are theirs and theirs alone. When the newspaper takes an official stand on an issue it will be clearly marked as an editorial and will be published on the Opinion Page. Key issues to us are open government, liberty and freedom, property rights, and advancing the quality of life. |
