VERA M. VONDERHEID
Vera M. Vonderheid, age 85, of Merrill, died peacefully surrounded by her family, at Walnut Grove Assisted Living, Merrill, on Saturday, February 27, 2010.
Vera was born September 23, 1924, in Merrill, daughter of the late John and Laura (Engel) Plautz. She married Harold Vonderheid on March 31, 1946. He died in 1999.
Vera was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill, where she was baptized and confirmed. She attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated Valedictorian of her class. She and her husband, Harold, moved to Minocqua in 1986, where the joined Rock of Ages Lutheran Church as charter members. They later joined Peace Lutheran Church in Arbor Vitae where they were also charter members. Vera was a vibrant and energetic, artistic person. She was an avid seamstress and quilter. Vera eagerly served on her church’s quilting committee. She was devoted to her church’s Altar Guild and sewed paraments and banners. Vera returned to Merrill in 2004 and again became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include one daughter, Ann (Bill) Ruder, of Merrill; one son, Larry (Marriann) Vonderheid, of Merrill; six grandchildren, Jeanne (Jeff) Erickson, Angela (Kris) Baguhn, Ryan (Becca) Ruder, Heidi (Joe) Schreiber, Amanda Vonderheid, and Cody Vonderheid; seven great-grandchildren, Gretchen, Kendall, Annalise, Camron, Carson, Cooper, and Sadie; and one brother, Arthur (Rose Marie) Plautz, of Merrill. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; one son, Jay Vonderheid; four sisters, Lillian Schult, Myrtle Zastrow, Hazel Maas, and Ila Plautz; and two brothers, Ellsworth Plautz, and John Plautz.
The Funeral Service was Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. R. Brian Stolarczyk officiated. Burial will take place at Merrill Memorial Park. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.

GORDON "BUCKY" DEXTER GROSS
Gordon “Bucky” Dexter Gross, age 82, of Gleason, WI and San Benito, TX passed away on February 27, 2010 after a long hard fight with cancer.
Gordon was born to Oswald and Frances Gross on December 12, 1927 who preceded him in death, along with his two sisters Lois Neuman of Racine and Grace Bruette of Texas. Gordon was born and raised in the Gleason area. He married Gladys Bruns on March 24, 1951 in Merrill Presbyterian Church. He was employed at Ward Paper Co. in Merrill for 34 years. He also owned and operated White Birch Mobile Home Park from 1961-1980. He was an avid deer hunter who enjoyed hunting and in his later years hunted with a crossbow. Nothing got past him while hunting. He loved the woods, bears, birds, fishing, campfires, chocolate and his little buddy, a red squirrel. His most prized possession though was his little dog Gigi who provided him with unconditional love. He did numerous jobs of bulldozing, septic tank cleaning and logging. He was truly an outdoor person. Gordon loved to travel and camp. His love for Alaska and Canada fishing took him back there numerous times often spending the entire summer. He had fond memories of traveling through most of the US and international travels including Africa, Spain, Jamaica, Canada,
Mexico, and Portugal. Upon retiring, he moved to San Benito, Tx for the winter months and came back to the Gleason area for the summer months. He did many hours of volunteer work in Texas at the Texas State Mental Health Care Center and the Texas Abuse Victim Center. He was enjoyed by many for his beautiful singing voice and his great wit.
Survivors include his wife Gladys, daughter Susan (Phillip) Herbig of Merrill and San Benito and a son Calvin (Debra) Gross of Green Bay and Gleason. He has enjoyed four grandchildren, one step granddaughter, seven great grandchildren and one step great grandson.
A memorial service will be held at Riverside Presbyterian Church at a later date and burial will be at the Town of Russell Cemetery in Gleason.

JACK O. DALEY
Jack O. Daley, age 64, of Merrill, died Friday, February 26, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Jack was born September 22, 1945 in Merrill, the son of the late James and Lillian (Kretchmer) Daley. Jack married Daniete Bowen at Trinity Church September 21, 1973.
Jack worked for Merrill Manufacturing for 32 years. He truly enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, playing cards and pool. Jack also loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include: wife: Daniete; 7 children: Kevin and Eric both of Merrill, Chris (April) of Hillview, IL, Shannon (Cody) Weber, Shawn, Brian (Becky), Robbie (Gail) all of Merrill; 5 grandchildren: MaKayla, Wyatt, Breonah, Josh, Niki; 4 brothers: Michael (Mary) and James of Merrill, Tom (Ann) of West Bend, Jerome ( Rene) of Merrill; a sister in law: Deloris Daley of Merrill; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Pat.

PAUL A. SCHULZ
Paul A. Schulz, 57, died on February 26, 2010, at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, VT, with his loving wife, Linda, and family members by his side.
Paul was born in Phillips, Wisconsin, on November 18, 1952, the son of Pastor and Mrs. Donald C. Schulz. He graduated from Merrill High School and attended Valparaiso University in Indiana, where he met his wife Linda Frazer.
Paul and Linda moved to East Wallingford in 1983 where he was a carpenter by trade. His hobbies included gardening, beekeeping, raising chickens, and researching, preserving, and sharing historical photographs. Paul was a member of the East Wallingford Volunteer Fire Department and was always ready to help others in need. Paul is survived by his wife of 31 years, his parents (Merrill), his sisters Christine Michael (Utica, Michigan), Becky Schulz (Wausau), and Donna Schulz (Madison), and a brother Mark (Michele) Schulz (Hortonville), as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Christian and Hilda Schulz and Arthur and Ruth Mertig (Glidden), and a sister, Linda.

BEN YUNEK JR.
Ben Yunek Jr., age 87, of Merrill, died Monday, February 15, unexpectedly at his home.
Ben was born September 2, 1922 in Ogema, WI the son of Ben and Margaret (Kiska) Yunek Sr.
Ben and Agnes “Butz” Fritsche were united in marriage July 22, 1944 in Peoria, Illinois.
Ben was a 1941 graduate of Marathon High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Europe as a Motor pool Srgt. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Ben worked in the body shop at Rosemurgy Motors in Wausau retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Merrill. Ben enjoyed spending time in his yard, watching the animals and just being home.
Survivors include: wife: Agnes “Butz” Yunek of Merrill; a son: James Ben Yunek of Wausau; 3 grandchildren: Bruce (Lindsay) Yunek of Catawba, WI, Jimmer Yunek of Manona, WI and Meredith (Dan) Brezinski of Manona, WI; 4 great grandchildren: Beth, Charles, Benjamin and Hailey; 1 sister: Emily Edinger of Omega,
WI; and 2 brothers: Delare (Judy) Yunek of Omega, WI and John Yunek of Houston, TX.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, and sister: Annabel Wheeler.
A Memorial Mass was Saturday, February 20, at St. Francis Catholic Church, The Rev. Fr. James Horath officiated.
